Following the success of our new boxing class we have decided to add another new class to the timetable.
This class is a Dutch kickboxing focused drilled class.
K-Star Legacy’s chief instructor Damien Trainor was heavily influenced by the Dutch fighters early in his career and has often incorporated their style of training in with his own.
Over the last few years Damien has been taken around the world to share his knowledge with some of the best active Muay Thai, Kickboxers and MMA fighters today. What he found was that one of the main reasons he was sort after was down to this specific variation of drills.
With that in mind we have decided to dedicate a whole class once a week to this style of training.
These drills help increase volume, improve body movement, hand eye coordination, defence and counters along with learning to read how your opponent moves.
The class will take place on Friday’s at 6pm which is then followed by our boxing class.
See you all there.
Below is BAMMA & EFC MMA world champion Yannick Bahati working with K-Star Legacy’s Assistant instructor Simon Whitehead doing these specific drills.
A great session with BAMMA & EFC world champion today with @utcuk's @yannick_bahati at K-Star Legacy. Thanks to K-Star Legacy's Simon Whitehead @kstar_si for jumping in and helping me go over some drills with Yannick. I've seen some great improvements in Yannick's defensive and offensive techniques over the last few weeks so it's going to be exciting to see what he's like come fight day. Simon fights on the Road to Muay Thai Grand Prix @muaythaigp on the 6th August and Yannick defends his EFC title in South Africa on the 19th August. —————————————— #kstarlegacy #drillsbuildskills #EFC #muaythaifighter #muaythai #thaiboxing #BAMMA #mma #ufc #bellatormma #champions #inspiration #muaythaistrikers #boxing #sports #motivation #fitness #wrestler #judo #fighting #fight #kickboxing #bjj #jiujitsu #jiujitsulifestyle #mixedmartialarts #kickboxing #martialarts #oldbury #birmingham
From Friday 7th April K-Star Legacy will be introducing a brand new boxing only class at 7pm for those interested on improving their hands.
The focus of the class will be aimed at practical combinations, faints, set ups along with boxing defence i.e parrying, slipping & bobbing and weaving etc.
The class will be available for anyone who has passed their first grade and up.
Making sure our students get the very best with their training we have a arranged for three champion guest instructors to take some classes throughout March.
First up on Wednesday the 15th of March we have former British champion and an old stable mate of Damien Trainor, Jason Richards. The speed and power of Jason’s kicks made him a fan favourite and very exciting fighter to watch. He’d scored a number of head kick KOs which were televised on the very popular channel 5 program Now is the Time Night of Combat. He stopped fighting at a young age to pursue his teaching career which he’ll be able to use to full effect during his session with you guys/girls.
Next up on Wednesday 22nd March we have our very own World champion Dan Edwards. Dan has been one of the UK’s top fighters in his weight for a number of years now. He’s been fighting extensively in Thailand since 2011 and has been undefeated there for the past 3yrs. He recently won his world just last month in spectacular fashion with a fourth round ko. During this class I’m sure he’ll be going over many of things he has used to make him a success.
Then on Wednesday 29th March you will have the privilege of training again with former British & European champion Gavin Bradley. Gavin and Damien were stable mates for a number of years and he was his regular training partner for many of his fights. He’s very charismatic and a great laugh during class. Gavin had a very successful fight career and will have a wealth of knowledge to pass on to those who can attend.
Only the best happens at K-Star Legacy.
K-Star Legacy’s chief instructor Damien Trainor has been asked to help a high profile MMA fighter with their striking.
The current ranked No2 flyweight in the UFC, Henry Cejudo has arranged to fly Damien out to Arizona to help improve his striking as he starts his prep for UFC 211 when he takes on Sergio Pettis in Dallas.
Damien and Henry have worked together before when they were both at world famous CSA gym in Dublin, California late last year.
Damien was at CSA for a month helping train a large number of athletes who all compete in major combat organisations such as the UFC, Glory, Bellator and Lion Fight amongst others.
While there Damien got to work with Henry and a few other guys who featured on last years Ultimate Fighter show, namely Alexandra Pantoja, Adam Antolin, Yoni Sherbatov and Nkazimulo Zulu.
Henry and Damien were both very impressed with each other and have been in talks ever since in regards to them working together again.
This shows what a high standard of instruction we have at K-Star Legacy with our instructors.
While Damien is away he has arranged for three other guest champion instructors to take some of the classes making sure his students still get the very best in tuition.
26th February saw K-Star Legacy’s Dan Edwards finally get his just dues by claiming the S3 Fight League’s world championship belt.
Dan has had an unbeaten record in Thailand for the last two years so the next logical step was to challenge for the World title.
Dan took on the very experienced Strahinja Ivanovic of Serbia at the Rialto Reborn banqueting suite in Coventry.
Dan put on a clinical performance with Ivanovic barely landing a shot. After four 8 counts via body punches the contest was finally stopped in the 4th round when Dan landed with a huge left knee to put Strahinja to the canvas.
All the years and hours of training had finally paid off for the newly crowned S3 World champion.
Also on the bill we had three other fighters compete with Jordan Matthews, Sharn Shelly and Luke Davis.
Jordan and Shard were both having their first fights with Jordan winning on points and Sharn narrowly losing. Sharn’s opponent had changed just a couple of days before the event, as his original opponent had to with withdraw due to injury. His replacement had some prior experience going in to this contest but none the less Sharn fought his heart out making it a very close points loss.
Luke Davis is slowly working his way through the ranks as he stopped his opponent with low kicks in the fourth round. This was Luke’s best performance to date and we can only see him getting better.
All in all it was a great day for K-Star Legacy.
